Norwegian Forest, the lynx

Character

Norwegian Forest cats possess the nobility of good wildcats. Yet, their highly-developed hunting instinct doesn’t prevent them from perfectly adapting to a shared living space with humans. Of course, they are very lively, which is how they reveal their nature from a recent feral past, having adapted to extreme weather conditions.

Large families, with children as playmates, are great for them. Nevertheless, their nature also allows them to adapt well to urban spaces, as long as they are not too small. In short, they are cats that need attention and affection, but also independence. They have their own life.

Appearance

We’re talking about a big cat: males sometimes weigh over eight kilos, although females stay at five. Norwegian Forest cats have a distinctly beautiful appearance of a lynx with the following defining features: a lush coat, protecting them from the weather; big triangular and pointed ears; a very long and bushy tail (which they wrap themselves up in to shut out the cold); tiger-like colours and markings of their coat (although it is also common for them to have a white coat to camouflage themselves in the snow); and strong legs, especially the rear ones.

Due to their appearance, they are loved by people who like cats resembling large felines, while others find them to be similar to certain canine breeds, such as the Siberian Husky.
