Cat-Proofing Your Christmas Tree

If you don’t want your pretty Christmas tree to become your cat’s playground, then you’ll have to take a few precautions.

First off, when it comes to choosing your tree, few people know that pine needles can be toxic for cats. So if you are going to put up a natural tree, it is important to make sure your cat cannot reach or eat the pine needles. Using a cat-repellent spray is also a good idea.

When you’re going to put up your tree, make sure the base is firmly in place so it cannot get knocked over if your cat tries to climb or rub against it. Also, make sure the bottom part of the tree doesn’t have any decorations on it that could be tempting, and attach them well so they don’t fall onto the floor.

If possible, use safe decorations and ornaments, such as unbreakable baubles or paper wreaths and don’t use ones that are painted or varnished, as they can be toxic. Avoid small figurines and objects.

You should also be careful with lights. Make sure that lights and cables are out of your cat’s reach.
